Chazin San Antonio Retreat Recap 2024

For this year’s retreat, we put our spreadsheets away and headed to the state where everything’s bigger: TEXAS! After countless online meetings, gathering face-to-face was a breath of fresh air (even if the Texas heat had us sweatin’ like a glass of sweet tea in August).

Team members traveled in from every corner of the country (from Florida to Washington State, and everywhere in between) to gather in San Antonio. We kicked off our retreat with a welcome dinner at Boudro’s on the iconic San Antonio River Walk. Between bites of perfectly cooked steak, we sipped margaritas and shared some laughs!

The next morning, bright and early, we volunteered at Haven for Hope, an inspiring 22-acre transformation campus that’s changing lives by tackling homelessness in a meaningful, human-centered way. Haven for Hope goes far beyond shelter—it’s a community that provides housing, warm meals, counseling, healthcare, education, and rehabilitation to individuals and families. It was humbling to hear about their work—especially knowing they helped over 900 people find permanent housing just this past year. Working alongside their dedicated staff, we witnessed the heart and hard work behind their programs. We left feeling grateful to play even a small part in their mission. If you’re ever looking for an organization to support, Haven for Hope is every bit of deserving!

After a long morning of volunteering, we headed over to Tejas Rodeo for a taste of Texas BBQ with a side of rodeo! As we tackled a spread of brisket, pulled pork, and all the fixins the Tejas team treated us to an unforgettable rodeo experience. From hopping on mechanical bulls to roping little (metal) calfs and even attempting some line dancing. We laughed, cheered, and got a bit out of our comfort zones together. Tejas Rodeo showed us the best of Texas hospitality, and we couldn’t recommend it more if you’re in the area.

On our final night, we wrapped up our retreat with a dinner at the legendary Casa Rio, a River Walk staple since 1946. With a picture-perfect view of the river, we shared plates of mouth-watering Tex-Mex while sipping margaritas and enjoying the Día de los Muertos river parade from the balcony. Watching the colorful floats drift by, surrounded by great company, was the perfect end to an incredible retreat.

We left Texas with new memories, even stronger bonds, and a renewed appreciation for the work we do—both for our clients and alongside each other. Here’s to many more retreats and even more opportunities to make a difference, one project (or mechanical bull) at a time!
