In September, Chazin’s crew gathered in Washington, D.C., for our 2025 Annual Corporate Retreat, and this one was extra special. Not only did we reconnect face-to-face as a remote-first team, but we also celebrated an incredible milestone: 20 years of serving and supporting nonprofits.
We kicked things off Thursday night with dinner at Proper 12K Street, where good food and great conversation set the tone for the days ahead. Friday was a whirlwind of connection and purpose — from a Smithsonian scavenger hunt that put our teamwork (and attention to detail skills) to the test, to breakout sessions focused on connection and growth. The afternoon took a more hands-on turn as we volunteered with Miriam’s Kitchen, making blankets for D.C. neighbors in need. And to top it all off, we wrapped up the retreat with our 20th anniversary celebration, a night filled with excellent food, both funny and heartfelt speeches, dancing, laughter, and a whole lot of gratitude for how far we’ve come — and where we’re headed next.
Work Hard, Play Harder: A Capitol Time in D.C.
By Thursday afternoon, our Chazin crew was rolling into Washington, D.C., from every corner of the country — California, Florida, and everywhere in between. As familiar faces reconnected in the lobby of the Westin, some teammates set off to explore the National Mall while others caught up over coffee (or, let’s be honest, snacks).
That evening, we officially kicked things off with dinner at Proper 21, where the energy was as good as the food (and the cocktails). After a year of seeing each other through screens, it felt great to share real conversations and laughter again.
Friday morning, things got wild — literally. Our Smithsonian scavenger hunt at the Natural History Museum had us striking questionable poses, sprinting through exhibits, and debating clues with the intensity of a championship game. The competition was fierce, the photos were hilarious, and the teamwork? Unbeatable.
We refueled with a delicious lunch at The Hamilton, a lively spot just steps from the White House that doubles as a music venue — a fitting choice for a team that knows how to make some noise. And those sliders? We couldn’t get enough of them.
The afternoon brought a balance of connection and community. Some broke off for their team time to do mini adventures around D.C., from cupcake runs to scenic walks (and maybe a power nap or two… we’ll never know 😉). Others headed straight to Miriam’s Kitchen, where we learned about their powerful mission to end chronic homelessness and got hands-on making blankets for those in need. After a quick switch, everyone had the chance to serve, connect, and reflect on the impact small actions can make.
Then it was time to trade T-shirts for fedoras and glitter. After a quick refresh, we stepped into the Roaring 20s for our 20th Anniversary Celebration — and the costumes did not disappoint. Gold, black, and sparkle filled the room as we gathered for cocktails, heartfelt speeches from Alli Rex, Chris Bavolack, Maria Injic, Michelle Philo, and our very own Adele Chazin. It was an extravagant and fitting dinner that celebrated two decades of growth, teamwork, and purpose.
And of course, it wouldn’t be a Chazin party without a packed dance floor. Our accountants proved once again that they can do more than balance books — they can also bust a move. The night was so lively that we extended the celebration, closing out an unforgettable retreat surrounded by laughter, music, and the people who make Chazin what it is.
By Saturday morning, we said our goodbyes (some a little sleepier than others), heading home recharged, reconnected, and ready for what’s next.
20 Years Behind Us, 20 Years Ahead of Us
This year’s retreat was about far more than a milestone. It was about a vision that started with one person and her vision. In 2005, Adele Chazin set out to create something different: a firm built on respect, accountability, collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to helping nonprofits thrive.
Two decades later, that vision has grown into a team of close to 100 dedicated professionals serving more than 350 clients across the country—and growing every day. What began as one woman’s belief in doing things the right way has become a community of people united by a shared passion: empowering organizations that make the world better.
A heartfelt thank-you goes to Alli, Fran, and Adele for their incredible work planning and bringing this retreat to life. From the thoughtful details to the unforgettable celebration, their organization and leadership made the entire experience one to remember.
As we look ahead to the next 20 years, we carry forward the same spirit that brought us here — one rooted in respect, authenticity, and the belief that when we support each other, we all thrive.
