Employee Spotlight: Cristine Schmanke

Holly-spotlight (6)

Employee Spotlight is a blog series meant to offer an inside look at our company culture and, most importantly, highlight the talented individuals who help make our company special. From accountants and software implementation specialists to operations, marketing, and HR professionals, get to know the people behind Chazin & Company.

Today, we are getting to know Cristine one our talented Accountants. Cristine is based out of North Carolina and has been with Chazin & Company since 2022. Let's learn more about her:

1. What's your role at Chazin & Company?

I’m an Accountant in Client Services. Most of my work is supporting just one client with a variety of daily duties from accounts payable, accounts receivable, grant and contract billing, international wires, etc.

2. What's the most rewarding part about your job?

I enjoy working with and supporting nonprofit clients who have meaningful visions and missions. It is wonderful working for a company with such a positive and supportive culture and on a client services team that is always helpful, collaborative, and easy to feel connected with, even in our remote environment. My job at Chazin has also provided an opportunity to venture out of my comfort zone to communicate with individuals from many countries around the world and learn about foreign currencies while providing support to my main client.

3. What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Just about anything to do with horses, lol. I compete in a Western riding sport called reining as a nonprofessional and ride my current horse, Jaxson, about every day. In addition, I enjoy gardening, cooking, reading, listening to music (rock and alternative), and being outside. My husband and I also love traveling and exploring new and favorite areas. We like visiting the desert, Caribbean islands, mountains, and anything in between.

4. What's your favorite volunteer activity?

Wreaths Across America. I became aware of this organization after my parents passed away. My dad was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He wanted to be buried in a military cemetery in New York with my mom after they both passed away just over two years ago. I sponsor wreaths at that cemetery for their grave and some others each year. This past December, I also helped to place wreaths at a national cemetery near where I live in North Carolina. It is such a special opportunity to honor those who have served our country and to celebrate my parents’ memory.

5. Please share any exciting news or a fun fact about yourself:

My husband and I have lived near Raleigh, North Carolina for almost 20 years — transplants from New York because we both don’t like snow! We have a daughter and granddaughter who live in New York and one daughter who lives in North Carolina. We recently adopted a rescued Boston Terrier named Riley, who has been a fun addition to our house.
